Morrisons has announced its intension to install hundreds of Amazon Lockers in its supermarkets as part of a plan to introduce more 'popular and useful services' in its stores.
Customers will be able to pick up their Amazon orders while doing their food shop at Morrisons.
While Morrisons could not provide Essential Retail with an exact number of Amazon Lockers they plan to install, the retailer said the click & collect lockers would be in the vast majority of its 492 stores nationwide.
"Many busy customers can’t wait at home for their delivery, and we believe the option to pick it up from one of our hundreds of conveniently located supermarkets will be attractive," said Trevor Strain, Morrisons CFO.
Amazon shoppers will receive a unique code via email or text which they enter into the locker, or scan a barcode from the correspondence to open the locker with their Amazon product.
There are more than 1,000 Amazon Lockers nationwide in locations including petrol forecourts, convenience stores, shopping centres, universities, train stations, banks and airports.
John Tagawa, Amazon’s VP of UK operations, added: "We are delighted to introduce Amazon Lockers at Morrisons supermarkets. Amazon Lockers are the delivery option of choice for many customers who want to pick up their shopping at a time and place that suits them best. Morrisons supermarkets are ideal locations for Amazon Lockers which allow people to pick up their parcels while on the move.”
Earlier this year, in May, Morrisons entered into an agreement with Amazon to supply grocery items for the e-tailer's food services, including Amazon Fresh in London, as well as Amazon Pantry, available nationwide, and Amazon Prime Now, available to over 30% of the population.
At the time, Morrisons CEO David Potts, called the supply chain agreement a "low risk and capital light" arrangement to broaden the business,
In order to offer 'popular and useful services' in its stores, Morrisons has also improved its in-store cafes and partnered with Timpson to expand its dry cleaning, key cutting and shoe repair business.
