Salad days: Visma and Bizerba combine to speed up self-service

Technology companies Visma Retail and Bizerba have combined to provide a new solution for retailers that aims to speed up in-store self-service.

Visma Retail has integrated its technology with weighing machine provider Bizerba to help convenience retailers speed up self-service in their stores.

The combination of Visma Retail’s RS point of sale (PoS) system and Bizerba’s MC weighing scales has been designed to simplify the self-service process for in-store salad bars, in particular.

Using the new solution, shoppers can select and pick the desired mix of salad, weigh the items and pay for them via an integrated self-checkout PoS and card terminal. The system cuts out the need to take products to the main till point at the front of the store because it enables the whole transaction to take place on the shop floor.

Receipts are printed out from the MC 500 and Visma Retail says the process boosts convenience for the shopper and efficiency for the retailer. The vendor claims its new partnership with Bizerba can help reduce unnecessary queues and allow shoppers to get in and out of store quickly and efficiently.

The technology behind the solution

According to Visma Retail, its RS PoS software can run on a wide variety of hardware and operating systems. Operators can switch the PoS operating mode from traditional to self-service PoS with the touch of a button, depending on their specific requirements or in-store traffic flow.

The application runs locally and master-data and sales information is automatically exported to a central server. The PoS can run offline for normal sales transactions, and Visma aims to make its PoS processes as automated as possible for retailers.

Bizerba’s MC 500 has a full-colour touch display and is offered to retailers as either a stand-alone or table-top model. It has been designed with flexibility in mind, and the vendor says it is suitable for retailers considering new store concepts.
