WHSmith has selected the Aptos point of sale (PoS) solution to be deployed across its travel and high street estate.
The books and stationery retailer is looking to invest in technology to increase productivity and customer engagement at its 900-plus locations across Europe, and the multi-year agreement with Aptos will see the installation of the latest version of Aptos Store.
In addition, the partnership with Aptos also includes access to a dedicated service management team, help-desk call handling and incident management.
Ian Windsor, CIO at WHSmith, remarked: "Investment in our IT infrastructure across our high street and travel channels is key to our development strategy.
"We need solid and reliable in-store technology to support our expansion plans and we are confident that Aptos can provide this along with the required support."
The wider retail industry is looking to enhance the in-store customer experience, partly to keep customers returning to shops rather than solely shopping online. Shirt retailer Charles Tyrwhitt and luxury cosmetics brand Molton Brown recently announced they are refreshing their PoS systems, working with Box Technologies and OneView Commerce respectively.
In-store systems expenditure is the number two 2017 investment priority for UK retailers, behind eCommerce, according to the most recent IT in Retail report from consultancy Martec International.
