WHSmith has increased its supply chain partnership with Menzies Distribution, which will see the logistics business provide trunk services from the retailer's distribution centres to Menzies' depot, as well as last-mile delivery to its stores around the UK.
The national contract comes after Menzes had been working with WHSmith in Scotland and the north of England over the last 18 months.
WHSmith's DCs are located in Birmingham, Swindon and Dunstable.
David McKinlay, supply chain director for WHSmith, commented: "Our experience of working with Menzies Distribution to date has been excellent and we had a strong desire to extend this quality of service and flexible approach to the rest of the UK, which was a major factor in choosing Menzies.
"We have been very pleased with the transition of the business across to Menzies and we look forward to working in close partnership to make further supply chain improvements together using their strong depot infrastructure and experience."
The three-year contract has prompted Menzies Distribution to add a further 80 vehicles to its fleet, bringing its owned fleet up to 950 vehicles.
WHSmith posted its strongest annual sales performance in more than ten years, in October, with encouraging trading in its travel stores helping drive a 1% increase in group like-for-like sales for the 12 months to 31 August. Group profit was up by 8%.
