Who has the best app in UK retail?

Amazon, Apple, Argos, Asos, Boots and Tesco's mobile apps have been ranked as the best in UK retail, in a new report from App Annie.

The top six retail apps in the UK have been ranked as Amazon, Apple Store, Argos, Asos, Boots and Tesco, according to new study by analytics and market data company, App Annie, which works with some of the world's largest retail businesses.

The Global Retail Report, which was published earlier this week, also found that over the past 12 months, total time spent in online-first retail apps increased by over 50% while the bricks-and-clicks retailers saw their app usage grow by nearly 40%. These figures were specifically for Android mobile devices.

Apps from online-first retailers such as Amazon and Asos are reportedly seeing more sessions per user and faster growth, than those from the more traditional companies operating in the industry.

App Annie Intelligence compiled the research, which maps out how mobile retailing has grown in recent years alongside some best practice advice for retailers looking to develop their mCommerce strategies.

"Consumer behaviour has shifted to favour mobile, and even a year ago half of mobile users used their phones during the purchase process (either to find more info, or to transact directly)," the report states.

"Mobile technologies, such as beacons, mobile payments and push notifications have become long-established components of retailers' toolkits, and it's rare to attend a marketing meeting where mobile channels are not discussed."
